Art is personal, a mirror of identity and belonging that our community creates for us. In my art, I explore emotion, humour, questions, and multiple views of the world I interact with. With soft pastels, I am an explorer and an experimenter. Not all artworks will look the same but a story will be there to find, sometimes elusive, sometimes magic!

Sarah Pondevie
I am an artist with a passion for pastels; the pure intensity of colour and softness of pastels is mesmerising and reflects the vibrant light of Australia. I have a duality of styles, either with realistic botanical paintings or creating impressionistic still lives, seascapes, landscapes and cityscapes.
I have always made art and growing up in Walyalup (Fremantle), I was always surrounded by artists and creatives. My work is a narrative of my travels, whether walking through my suburb and being inspired by ordinary wonders or road trips exploring our beautiful country. I use strong design elements in my composition through colours and texture, and it is naturally influenced by my varied life experiences in the creative world.
I love plein air painting as working in the fresh air inspires me and opens my eyes to the unfiltered light around me. I am consumed by the colours in shadows, and working outdoors reveals more than any photograph. I bring these experiences into the studio where I work most days.

Julie Cubbage
Julie is a Perth artist who lives with her family and works in her home studio. She grew up in Sydney and had always desired to venture into fine art, however it wasn’t until she completed a Bachelor of Arts in visual arts at Sydney College of the Arts that her art journey began. Julie also went on to complete a Graduate Diploma of Education at Sydney Teachers College.
In 2003, she joined the West Australian pastels society, discovering her passion for the medium, which is very dominant in her expressive work. Her skills have also developed in oils, in which she paints and teaches with daily. Although Julie doesn’t see it as teaching, as much as it is sharing – of her life, passion and her workspace, which is an intimate home studio that welcomes and cultivates creatives alike. Julie is strong on passion and spirit to recognise challenge and having the strength to do it anyways. She captures the courage in individual human stories reflected in portraiture and celebrates the beauty in creation.
ARTISTIC WORK
Julie is a realist artist, depicting moments in time with fine detail – from personal portraits, expressions and moods to still life and florals (especially portraying the delicacy of colour and texture in roses). Capturing light and the many colours that light and shadows display are a constant source of inspiration for her. As previously mentioned, her dominant mediums are pastel, oil and gouache.
After a lifetime of career and paternal demands, Julie’s availability and intent is directed to make art her focus. She hopes to create more commissioned portraits as her central activity, while conducting smaller, more private, and personal classes (all of which can be enquired via the commission/contact).

Di McCarthy
Born in Zambia and raised in South Africa, I have now called Perth my home for many years. I work mostly with pastels, but I enjoy watercolours, acrylics, oils and drawing too. I have been interested in art since I was a child, went to an Art School for high school and have been lucky enough to turn art into my career, first as a Graphic Designer and now as an Art Teacher. I find great reward in sharing what I have learnt on my art journey with others and watching their joy as their own creativity grows.
I love painting the beautiful landscapes that Perth offers, everyday scenes that have lovely light and also people and animal portraits. I want the images that I paint to evoke the feeling of 'wanting to be there'.
Thank you for taking the time to look at my gallery and if you are interested in any of my work, please email me at 2di4.dm@gmail.com

Betty McLean
I was born in the wheatbelt town of Wyalkatchem, Western Australia. After moving to Perth, I attended Carine T.A.F.E and completed a Diploma of Art Studies.
While I work with all mediums, I especially enjoy painting with pastels. I’m honoured to be a Life Member of the Pastel Society of Western Australia.
Light, shadows, colour, and my love of the Australian landscape and coastline are a constant source of inspiration. My work is represented in many councils and private collections both in Australia and overseas, and I’ve been fortunate to receive many awards.
